Presidential elections were held in the unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia on October 3, 1999 at the same time as a referendum on the constitution. Outgoing President Vladislav Ardzinba stood unopposed in the election.[1] The People's Party had nominated former Foreign Minister Leonid Lakerbaia, but his registration was denied by the Central Election Commission headed by Viacheslav Tsugba.
